You can find fresh figs in the m arket m id-June through
Novem ber. Their m ild earthy-sweet flavor m akes them
a natural fo r fall salads and snacking

Fresh figs are shipped ripe and ready to eat.
They have a unique cream y-crunchy texture and
tender, edible skin. Ripe figs should yield to gentle
pressure; avoid hard, bruised, o r very soft ones
with an off odor.

Figs are fragile and extrem ely perishable.
Store at room tem perature up to 3 days. Refrigerate
in an em pty egg carton o r in a single layer in a paper
towel-lined container, loosely covered, up to a week.

Trim the stem end before serving. For an
appetizer, halve and stuff with blue cheese. O r slice
and add to pizza with bacon o r prosciutto. For
dessert, sprinkle with sugar and bake in a preheated
375°F oven for 10 minutes; serve with ice cream.
